Exciting News!
Urban Curbside Recycling Pilot
Pickup will be every Wednesday between
December 3, 2025 to February 18, 2026
The Municipality is pleased to announce the launch of a new 12-week pilot program for curbside recycling pickup, offering urban residents a convenient way to participate in waste diversion efforts. This initiative is part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to improving waste management practices and addressing increased operational costs associated with the recent transition to a Transfer Station.

The shift to this new system has resulted in higher operating expenses, which have subsequently contributed to increased local taxes. The curbside recycling pilot will allow the Municipality to explore practical solutions that reduce strain on their Transfer Station while supporting responsible environmental stewardship. By diverting recyclable materials, it is hoped to lower costs and provide long-term benefits to the community.

During the pilot period, residents will be able to place designated recyclable materials at the curb for collection. To ensure safety for both staff and residents, glass items will not be accepted through curbside pickup. Glass can instead be dropped off at the Municipality’s designated depot for proper processing and handling.

At the conclusion of the 12 weeks, the Municipality will conduct a thorough review of the collected data to evaluate the program’s effectiveness. The findings will help determine whether curbside recycling will move forward as a permanent service for urban residents.

The Municipality encourages all eligible households to participate and help contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable community

Garbage Collection
Residential garbage collection occurs every Monday in Erickson, and commercial garbage collection occurs on Monday and Friday.
In the event that a holiday causes a long weekend with Monday being the extra day off work, garbage collection will instead occur on Tuesday of that week. If Friday is the extra day off work, commercial garbage collection will occur on Thursday.

Please ensure that your garbage is ready for pickup by 8:30 am.

Recycling
The South Mountain Waste Management Group operates a 24-hour recycling drop-off facility south of the corner of Main Street and Centre Avenue in Erickson. Materials accepted include glass, #s 1, 2, 4 & 5 plastics, aluminum and tin cans, newsprint, cardboard/boxboard, and milk and juice cartons. All materials MUST be sorted. Batteries may also be recycled inside the recycling centre, and in the Municipal Office and Professional Centre.

Organic Waste Collection
Composting is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce the amount of waste going into the landfill. Organic waste collection occurs in Erickson, every Wednesday between May 1 and October 31, and on the first and third Wednesday of each month between November 1 and April 30. Please have your green bin at the curb by 8:30 a.m., and ensure that kitchen waste is contained in compostable bags.
