1. Statement of Commitment
The Municipality of Clanwilliam-Erickson is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for all people, regardless of their abilities. We are committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in inclusion, and we are committed to meeting the needs of people who face accessibility barriers by identifying, removing, and preventing these barriers, and by meeting the requirements of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act.
2. Accessibility Issues in our Community
Due to the demographics of the community, most of the accessibility issues in the Municipality of Clanwilliam-Erickson are age related. People who are mobility challenged due to age may have a difficult time accomplishing day to day tasks when the weather is wet or snowy. All businesses in Erickson are accessible by wheelchair and walker, provided the streets and sidewalks are passable. The Municipal Office and Council Chambers are fully accessible by wheelchair, except the washrooms which are too small for wheelchairs. The office’s front door might benefit from automation, but this has not been brought up as a barrier by our ratepayers to date.
